Cosmetic surgery for men

Eye bag removal / Eyelid Improvement

Reducing or reshaping bags under or above the eyes is a form of blepharoplasty, or eye-lift, performed almost always for cosmetic reasons when the lower lid becomes puffy with age. Upper lid surgery is generally designed to combat the appearance of wrinkles or drooping skin, often referred to as hooded eyes, whereby lower lid procedures are often aimed at reducing the volume of the eye lid from fatty tissue and excess skin.

Various methods can be used to improve the eye region

Cosmetic surgery of the upper or lower eye's can be performed in different ways. It may be performed under a general anesthetic, although sometimes it is possible to undergo this procedure under a local anesthetic and sedation. One method involves making an incision just below the lower eye lash to help minimise scarring, where excess fat and skin is removed. Most incisions are made in the natural crease area, to reduce visible scars, as in the case of upper eyelid surgery. These procedures are sometimes performed in conjunction with a facelift.

An alternative method to improve the lower eye region, is to make the incisions at the back of the lower lid, called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, in which fat is removed from the area around the lid in a similar way to liposuction, just on a smaller scale. This procedure means no external scar is visible; however, no excess skin can be removed which is why many patients opt for an additional chemical peel which aims to improve the surface of the skin. This method. is usually reserved for men and women under the age of 40, who have little skin to remove.

Canthopexy and Canthopexy are additional procedures, which can be carried out at the time of eye surgery, and are used to help tighten the ligament and/or muscle that support the outer corner of the eyelid to enhance the eye area. A canthoplasty reshapes the eye, while a canthopexy supports without changing the eye shape. This procedure can be used to prevent or correct a pulling down of the lower lid. This can help give the impression of a more open eyed look, a sign of youthfulness.

Some patients request eye bag removal for the removal of dark circles under their eyes. Surgery is not always the best choice here, and we would recommend that you talk with one of our Surgeons or medical aesthetician's to investigate other treatments, such as non-surgical treatments, or skin care products which may help with reducing the appearance of dark circles.
